Diamond Star at Joann’s
Monday, May 24th, 2010Growing Dentrites
Friday, May 21st, 2010I’m off to take a class this morning. We will be using double-needles and basting spray, two things I’ve never done before. May I always stay never too old or too wise to learn something new. I’ll let ya know how it goes!
Serene Green has come home!
Friday, May 14th, 2010Just picked up my quilt that has been traveling for almost two years with the Mason-Dixon Quilt Professionals Network. It is one of my favorites – shadow trapunto and extensive beadwork. I actually used lime green felt underneath the white fabric. The end result was a soft mint green. I am so happy its home! I have missed it!
Inspirations
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010Just last night, I had the wonderful experience of joining yet another guild, The Ladybug Quilt Guild in Newark, Delaware. Everyone there was very generous in taking the time to make me feel welcome and comfortable. I was extremely happy to see their speaker, Linda Pool, and her outstanding Trunk Show. She is the creator of my absolutely favorite quilt, The Bride. She is more recently known for her lace cutwork patterns. Ironically, Linda was also the speaker at my first meeting with the Flying Geese Quilt Guild in Harford County. She had The Bride there too. I have seen it one more time when I lived in Virginia. Very awe-inspiring work and an amazing talent.
Block of the Month – May
Monday, May 10th, 2010This is the Lemoyne Star or 8-Pointed Star. It has many names and many incarnations. Although you may be intimidated by the construction process, I’ve made it as easy as possible. There are no Y-seams or Set-in seams, all straight line piecing. This block is one of my favorite stars.
losing the light…
Thursday, May 6th, 2010Time to stop working – the sun has moved behind the house and its getting a bit cloudy… no more glorious sunlight filtering in through my picture window. I really need to get some better lighting in my studio. Tomorrow, I suppose I’ll just have to get started earlier to finish this quilting class sample. You can see by the picture its a bit dark in here. Shadows are starting to grow…
Found!!! New fabric stores!!
Tuesday, May 4th, 2010Well, at least they are new to me!
The first two are quilt shops, of course. In Dover, Delaware, there is Chick’s-n-Stitches, a quaint little store just up the road from the Dover Air Force Base. This store has been on Lebanon Road for two years now and has an interesting array of fabrics. In the back of the store on the sale bolts, several rows of fabric going for $5 a yard. Unfortunately, they do not have a website yet.
Next, I finally went to the Lil’ Country Shoppe and it was gorgeous! Its a huge store right off rt. 896 in Middletown, Delaware, surrounded by farmland. I’m told they even have an Backyard Quilt Show every September.
And lastly, I found this amazing decorative fabric store full of bolts and bolts of decor fabric, trims and tassels! The Interior Alternative located off of rt. 896 in Newark, Delaware. I spent a couple of hours in there just gazing lustfully at all the bolts!
After gallivanting around Delaware, not only did I come home refreshed, renewed and inspired but had a few yards of fabric in tow as well!
