Binding away here!

July 14th, 2010

Just finished binding on a couple of class samples – still have lots more quilts waiting for binding. I can’t seem to keep up! I may have to  just sit and bind for days on end – hope the TV and movie schedules will be entertaining enough to keep me on task! Binding is my least favorite thing about quilting – to sit and do it all day today will be especially difficult since  I came up with all sort of new quilts in my head this morning while trekking around the neighborhood AND I’ve got a free software demo waiting on my computer for me to play with – gonna finally get some of my original long-arm patterns drafted and sell-able after I master this program.  Not enough time in the day – or week – or month!

Yet another Tessellating Tree – (got another waiting on binding too!)

My fourth Machine Quilting 101 sampler – its a popular class! This one is heading back to Seminole Sampler tomorrow.

Starry Block of the Month Assembly and Border Construction

July 10th, 2010

Wow – the 10th of the  month almost slipped away from me. I am so glad I remembered the date! Our middle son and his very drooly dog have been here for a few weeks and thrown me completely off kilter! He’s sleeping til noon and his dog isn’t.  I can really gross you out by telling you that is pretty necessary to wear shoes in the house with that dog – he drips! He steals loaves of bread! He chases the cat every chance he gets. My son tells me I’ll get used to it – what does he know – he’s sleeping through half of it!

Any way – here’s the last installment of the Starry Block of the Month – Putting the whole thing together!!! I’m hoping to have my Brown and Tan version together by September – that’s my goal so lets see if I can make it. I have really been stalling on the center applique block – haven’t really touched it!  So lets see how well I do with this self-imposed  deadline!  Don’t forget to send me pictures of your quilts. I’d love to post them right here in my blog for everyone to see!

Lots of quilting to do today!

July 6th, 2010

Working on the background “fill” for this Diamond Star – its going to take some time. Sometimes I wish I could could just make myself meander!! However, the texture that this is giving the background is beautiful and compliments the quilting going on in the star nicely, if i do say so myself. It is created by using the Gadget Girls Swag ruler to make the scallops then filling in the scallops with leafy feathers.

Love this from Ami Simms!

Here’s a very creative and free tutorial on how to create those cool clothesline bowls and baskets! Love the hand-dyed rope too! Saves a lot of time not having to wrap the clothesline with fabric first! Check it out!

Machine Quilting at Chicks-n-Stitches!

July 1st, 2010

Great class – Everyone had a Janome!!! I’ve never seen anything like it – must be Janome-land over in Dover! This group of gals were quick studies and moved along at a good pace. I especially love the ingenuity of one of the ladies! Her seat was too low – as it always is when we trek out to a class – so she found a bag of fabric scraps to sit on. Every time she sat down, it made quite an interesting noise but it worked! I highly recommend keeping a pillow in your car for just such situations – or a bag of scrap fabric, if you are so inclined…

Still finding things after 3 months of unpacking!

June 25th, 2010

I have been looking all over for this quilt – I use it as a sample in my machine applique class – Its a Zebra Pattern by Debra Gabel and her technique is a bit different than the standard machine applique process.  Any way, I finally found it! It was lurking between some folded quilts – being so small and only one layer, it kept getting passed by. I am very happy to have found it. I was afraid I had given it away as a gift  and couldn’t remember the actual event  – Needless to say, I am grateful that I’m not that generous.

There’s a quilt in here someplace…

Let it Snow???

June 18th, 2010

Just finished this Snowman – a trapunto sample – a few days ago. The pattern was enlarged from my smaller “Stuffed Snowmen” and I will be using it to teach a trapunto class this fall. He is completed quilted on my home machine, didn’t even near the long-arm – no wait, I might have spread the fabric out on top of another quilt on the long-arm, so he did get near the machine.  The blue snowman has beady little eyes, literally, a ribbon scarf and big turquoise buttons from the beach. You can see him close up and personal in my gallery. The white and purple one has not been bound yet but check out the buttons on his belly. They are from the Art Pantheon in Harve De Grace that I told you about earlier. He is still waiting for his scarf too because I am waiting on my brain to decide what color – red or purple and green… Its a little odd thinking about snow in the middle of June.

Look what Kim has done!!

June 16th, 2010

Kim has taken several classes with me and is truly a talent to behold. She has done some wonderful Thread Play ala Libby Lehman on the Tessellating Trees Table Topper. Click on the picture to get a closer look. You will definitely be impressed!

And her colors on the Diamond Star are beautiful! The border is not on the quilt yet but I’ve seen it and can guarantee it’ll be a beauty when its finished. Thank you, Kim, for sharing your work with us!

Freezer Paper Piecing Technique!

June 15th, 2010

This class was held at Seminole Sampler this past Saturday – 7 hardworking students who caught on pretty quickly to the technique of using freezer paper as your foundation. It makes it a whole lot easier in the end when you don’t have to rip out all that paper.
